In the contemporary world, e-learning has received more attention than it was in the past. It is in actual sense replacing the traditional way of learning and teaching or rather classroom based learning. In this sense, E-learning consists of all electronically based forms supporting teaching and learning. As such, such learning involves computer and network enabled transference of skills and practice to be precise. In this connection, the knowledge is gained with orientation to individual experience, knowledge and the practice of the learner to be defined. As a matter of fact, its processes and applications are fundamentally web-based learning, virtual classrooms, digital collaboration and computer based learning altogether.
In this context, the research proposal project in the discussion is aimed at addressing E-learning along with its impact in the sector of education. Although its implications are not limited to education alone, the impact it has had in this area has more than what the outlook suggests. This is to suggest that the impacts of e-learning in education can provide a better understanding of its nature. Needless to say, the impacts of e-learning are numerous of which they involve both positive and negative. It is therefore within the confines of the positive and negative effects of E-learning that this research proposal has been based.
Even though, there is a lot that e-learning has contributed to education in particular, the negative impacts so far realized cannot be underrated. From a broader point of view, at the advent of E-relearning, education has experienced a remarkable change, improvement, quality and accessibility around the globe. In fact, E-leaning has transformed education leading to great evolutions which cannot be understated. However, several challenges and negative effects of E-learning to education are so important that they cannot be assumed. Therefore, the proposed research project is meant to explore as well as expose the impacts of E-learning. By so doing, both negative and positive impacts will be explored and thus it will help to address the negative effects that have abused the system and eventually the positive impacts will be utilized the more while minimizing the risks involved. In the same line of thought, the proposed research project in reference to the program of studies and areas of professional interest will provide recommendations that will ensure achievement of quality education along with pointing out of points of improvements.
In particular, this topic is not as new as it may appear. In the past, it had not drawn a lot of research as it has in the recent times. This is to suggest that this is not the first research to be done on the topic of interest. Nonetheless, the impacts of e-learning on education have diversified and their implication to the quality of education in the current era needs more attention that it has been in the past. According to Holmes & Gardner (2006), e-Learning has numerous advantages as well as benefits providing an opportunity to both the learner education to add to their learning experience and knowledge altogether.
Arguably, Holmes & Gardner (2006) states that there has been one of the impacts that has brought about many questions of which it is basically the lack of face to face contact of the educator and the learner. Nonetheless it has impacted the world both positively and negatively as witnessed by research. Having provided the research questions to be addressed in the proposed research project, it is important to bring into context the methods that will be employed to conduct the research project. In the past, researchers have attributed great advances in education to be as a result of e-learning. Along with this, most of them have used grades score as a measure of the impact that e-learning has on education. This has been done by measuring the differences in student performance at the introduction of e-learning and the ones who have learnt through classroom instruction with a face to face interaction with the instructor. However, the case for this study will measure the eventual or accumulated impact of education in one’s field of specialization. This will employ the use of books, journals and websites as sources of information.
Another thing that will be taken into account in this context is the examination of universities and colleges which are higher learning institutions. Predominantly, a digital literacy skill that is required in the discipline, profession and carrier in the larger perspective is another effect of e-learning. More to this point, more expenditure by the higher education institutions like the universities will be realized along with higher performance due to e-learning.
Moreover, the aspect of convenience and flexibility especially to the learners would be another thing leading to large masses of learned people as nowadays each and everyone has access to education at his or her convenience (Malone, 2003). Interestingly enough, e-learning is expected in this research to be responsible for increased population of learners and thus illiteracy is being eradiated globally. Along with this, it is expected that e-learning is responsible for reducing discrimination of students based on their color, race and geographical location. Therefore, such a case ensures that quality education is accessible internationally. Apart from this point, it is an expected outcome that e-learning has been responsible for the reduced performance in education due to cheating that cannot be accounted for. Again in this context, e-learning is responsible for the many workers who are non-performing though they hold degrees since for distance learners unless monitored one can have his or her exams taken by someone else with better performance.
